150 Meters of Connection
Humanitarian project with Fondazione Francesca Rava (NGO), documenting road construction and community activities — NPH Home, Dominican Republic
I had the opportunity to document a humanitarian project at an NPH home in the Dominican Republic, carried out in collaboration with Fondazione Francesca Rava. The project focused on improving accessibility for the children and young adults living at the home, which houses over 300 residents ranging from young children to teenagers up to 19 years old.
Our main task was the construction of a new road connecting the NPH home to the nearby hospital. Over several weeks, our team worked intensively, mixing sand, stones, concrete, and water to lay more than 150 meters of pavement. The new road provides a direct and safe path for children in wheelchairs, sparing them a long detour around the village.
Alongside the construction work, we spent time with the children, participating in sports, games, and daily activities. We also assisted the home in whatever tasks were needed, from maintenance to support in everyday operations. Through my photography, I aimed to capture both the labor and the joy of this environment—the teamwork, the effort, and the moments of play and connection that give life to the community.
The images document not just the physical improvements, but the human relationships at the heart of the home, illustrating the resilience, energy, and warmth of the children and staff. This visual record serves to highlight the impact of practical interventions alongside emotional support, showing how collaboration and care can tangibly improve lives.
